Sonja J. Schöne, Universität Hamburg

Sonja J. Schöne was born on June 19th 1977 in Bonn. At the age of eight she moved to Munich, and in 1996 she finished her Abitur at Tassilo-Gymnasium (Simbach/Inn). After graduation from school, during the summer 1996, she worked as a volunteer at MCF (Mama Clementina Foundation), a vocational training school, in Moshi, Tanzania. In fall, 1996, she began her studies at Hamburg University, majoring in American studies; her minors are Sociology and Musicology. In the fall semester 1998, she transferred to Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität, Bonn. From August 1999 to July 2000, she visited Rutgers University, NJ/USA, with a DAAD scholarship. She was enrolled at the English Department and completed the Certificate in Women's Studies. After her return to Germany, she took up her studies at Hamburg University and is now planning to finish her master's degree. Practical experiences include internships in journalism, a student assistant job at the University of Bonn and tutoring for the Smith College Program in Hamburg. Her current research concerns contemporary American poetry.
