Björn Wieders is currently working towards his MA in American Studies and History at Humboldt-University. In 2002/2003 he studied at the University of Illinois at Chicago where he was able to gain experience in the teaching of languages and media, especially film. Starting in the summer term of 2004, he will be instructor of a tutorial on 'American Documentaries Since 1980' at Humboldt-University. His MA thesis project on autobiographical documentaries will explore aspects of film as well as literary theory. Apart from non-fiction film, his research interests focus on film and memory, visual anthropology, film in Germany since 1945 and theories pertaining to realism. Björn Wieders is also involved in non-academic documentary film projects, thereby actively trying to get that 'reality' on the screen.
