After graduating in English, American and German Studies, Reinhard Isensee pursued a postgraduate degree in American Studies at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. His dissertation dealt with the topic of naturalist literature in the US, his habilitation in the year 2002 with American adolescent literature of the 20th century. He teaches American literature and culture at the American Studies Program of Humboldt-Universität and has held numerous research and teaching posts as visiting researcher in the US and at several European universities.
